I am not afraid!

This day was a fun day because we got to read my favorite Halloween story The Little Old Lady Who Was Not Afraid of Anything! by Linda Williams and Megan Lloyd. After welcoming and calendar and a few different renditions of The Itsy Bitsy Spider. We read the book, then we read it again with props. The kids had a lot of fun acting it out.

After the story we made a little mini-reader. "_____________'s Not Afraid." We read it together. Make sure they read it to you too!

During our fundamental review we talked about Nn. We sang our song and looked at some pictures that start with Nn.

We welcomed everyone with a spider puzzle. We sent the puzzles home so they can practice some more if they want. :)

After calendar time we looked at our Halloween pictures and sorted them into different colors, things that are pretend or real, and things that are scary or not scary.

We read Stellaluna by Janell Cannon.

We finished the bats (well, Mrs. Amber and Mrs. Laura finished them... we showed them the finished product).

These are our ghostly footprints. The children later added eyes and a mouth to turn them into ghosts!

We reviewed our fundamentals, including 3. We let each child stamp their index card 3 times.

We introduced the letter Nn. (I just realized we forgot to sing our Nn song! Oh man! I guess we'll have to just sing it next time.)

The children colored their Nn page for their alphabet books.

Then we played and danced! :)

We are so excited for the holidays to begin. There are so many fun activities we will be doing!

We started October off by creating a picture bank. We asked the children what things they associated with October or Halloween. These are the things they came up with...

We decided to focus on Spiders today. Our learning box question was whether or not they liked spiders. We were surprised at how many of the children like spiders and even like spiders to crawl on them! :)

Spider Facts

• A fear of spiders is called arachnophobia.
• Most spiders are helpful to us. They are clean and they catch yucky bugs.
• There are 30,000 different kinds.
• Spiders are not insects. They are arachnids.
• They have two parts to their body, eight legs, and up to eight eyes.
• Most spiders spin webs.
• They live all over the world- some in trees, some on the ground, some in your house!
• They are all sizes. The biggest is the tarantula that can grow up to 10 inches! :P
• Some people have spiders as pets!
  

We sang the itsy-bitsy-spider while the kids played with a spider puppet.

We used marbles covered in white paint, to create spider webs and added spiders to them.

We introduced our "fun"damentals for October. We found items around the room that were orange and black. We played our #3 action game. Each child took turns being the leader and wearing a #3 necklace. They did an action 3 times and everyone followed. We also talked about the differences between a circle and a square.
