Welcome to Preschool!

What an exciting day for everyone! We are so glad to have your sweet children in our preschool. Here is what we did on our first day!

After we welcomed everyone and played a little we started what will be our usual routine. We opened the learning box. Inside was a question. What do you want to learn in preschool? Some of them wanted to learn about numbers and shapes, a few wanted to learn about their pets, and some wanted to learn how to have friends! :) Then we did the Pledge of Allegiance, talked about the weather and looked at our calendar.

Next, we went on a tour of the preschool and the house and showed them how to wash their hands.

We played a name game to try and learn everyone's names.

We read Chrysanthemum by Kevin Henkes (one of my favorite authors).

After snack we danced...

then introduced our "fun"damentals (a term from the learning box preschool).

The number 1, the colors red and blue, a circle, and the letter Aa.

We colored a letter Aa page that we kept to put in an alphabet book at the end of the year.

"The Letter A"
to the tune of Frere Jacques
The letter A. The letter A. (make ASL sign for letter, showing one hand then the other)
Has a sound. Has a sound. (bring 1 hand to ear and then the other hand to the other ear)
What sound do you make? What sound do you make? (palms facing up, shrug shoulders)
/a/ /a/ /a/! /a/ /a/ /a/! (Make ASL sign for letter, move hand forward and backward for each sound)
Then we had playtime. Amber and I both had camera's on hand and completely forgot to take our first preschool day pictures of each child and as a group!!! We remembered at the end, but they were taken in such a hurry they didn't turn out too great. So, I'm going to make you wait until next week for them! :) You're all so nice, I know you'll forgive me. Can't wait for next week!
